1 Introduction Leadership is designed to improve people, similarly the purpose of management is to maximise workers ‘ abilities by assigning the appropriate job to the right employee (Bonsu & Twum- Danso 2018, p. 49). A plethora of literature is dominated by various styles of leadership. This research critically analyse significant leadership styles and evaluate some of their distinct, overlapping features. In summary, cross cultural transformational leadership is addressed and proposed to be the best practice for organisations in this globalisation era (Bonsu & Twum-Danso 2018, p. 39). 2 Overview of Leading and Managing in Organisations 2.1 Understanding Leadership Styles The influence of leadership styles, attitudes and actions maintained by leaders, is a key theme in leadership research (Anderson & Sun 2017, p. 76). In order to capture the absent facets, numerous leadership styles have been recommended. Anderson & Sun (2017, p. 76) in their article review the evolving literature on new styles of leadership and explore how these styles intersect. With the development in organisations, the present list of various leadership styles is comprehensive, but not exhaustive. Anderson & Sun (2017, p. 77) not only review new models of leadership but also include a critique of the prevailing transformational / transactional model. They state, the similarities between these models are significantly higher than their distinctions. Anderson & Sun (2017) discuss various overlaps like - Pragmatic leadership elements represent transformational leadership aspects and the characteristics of servant leadership intersect theoretically with other styles, particularly transformational style. It was also found in a table comparison that elements of authentic leadership correlate with transformational, spiritual, servant, and charismatic leadership to a great degree (Anderson & Sun 2017, pp. 87- 88). On the other hand, Spiritual leadership intersects with servant, authentic, transformational, ethical leadership that serve others truth, morals which forms basis of spiritual leadership (Anderson & Sun 2017, p. 89). Given the large overlaps between the leading styles examined, the writers believe it is crucial to significantly reorient leadership Page | 1
research (Anderson & Sun 2017, p. 90). Anderson & Sun (2017, p. 92) conclude by recommending the incorporation of leadership styles into a new "full-range" style which would allow potential empirical study to incorporate more leadership work rather than repetitions of theories similar to those in the current leadership literature. Bonsu & Twum- Danso (2018, p. 48) in their paper address the significant changes in the leadership witnessed during the 21st century from a regional and multicultural movement towards globalisation, rising national borders and growing customers and staff bases. The authors add that business leaders are therefore obligated to alter their management styles to put staff, consumers and investors in line with various beliefs, cultures, regulations and attitudes. (Bonsu & Twum- Danso 2018, p. 48). Cultures affect and shape managerial work
