Design Feasibility Part of development feasibility Can be carried out at early stage – even before architect has “put pen to drawing board” – Can still be remarkably accurate - within 10% – Is the figure “clients remember most” – Important to make clear the assumptions based on – eg size, quality standard (low, average, high) & other key factors

Need for cost feasibility Buildings are expensive – Client needs to know his financial commitment Professional fees can be 10% plus – Client does not want to abort, or incur extra fees by making changes later on To ensure the client is getting the right building at the right price How do we ensure this Appropriate professional advice - ideally from a QS

On medium to large projects – extra QS fees negliglible On small projects – May rely on Architect / BS for cost advice – They will probably check with a QS On all projects – Architect etc. should understand what a QS can do to ensure client gets best cost management service
