Unit 1 discussion 1Why is it important to study sexuality across history? Across cultures? Across species? In other words, what can studying sexuality in this way tell us about ourselves? About sexuality? Describe a few ways that our ideas about sex have evolved over the past 100 years in the United States. How has this evolution impacted current counseling practices today when dealing with this issue?It is important for a mental health counselor in training to study sexuality across history to gain a better understanding of what and how today’s society is effected by sexuality, to understand across culture and how sexuality has become a big part of all cultures, and across species to understand how and where sexuality has evolved. There will come a time in this field that sexuality will be the forefront of why a person is coming in to see a counselor such as a person who is a part of the LGBTQ community for starters,or a couple who may be having some sexuality issues or sex issues, there may be a time when there is a parent and child seeking counseling because one or the other don’tagree with the sexuality of the other. There are many many reasons for person to seek counseling due to a problem involving sex or sexuality.
