Part 1: Ball in Flight The ball is in flight whenever it is thrown, punted, or kicked. When throwing the football, the quarterback must take into account the force of gravity, which causes the ball to go towards the ground. Therefore, the ball must be thrown at an upward angle causing the football to fulfill the proper projectile motion. Projectile Motion: The path of any object that is launched or thrown. The quarterback must also take into account air resistance. To combat air resistance, the quarterback must put more rotation on the ball.
