Jan 31’07 COMPUTING THE DESCRIPTIVE MEASURES WITH CALCULATOR #3a a) rewrite n elements of the array representing the sample of scores in the 2 nd column of the table (see the Example 1 below in which n = 5 ); b) find the sum of all array elements and put it in the last line of the 2 nd column; _ c) compute the mean [see formula (2.1) in the handout #2] x = x mean = ( Σ x i )/n : divide the obtained sum by n and write the result below the table; d) evaluate the first difference x 1 x mean and put its value in the first line of the 3 rd column; e) put the absolute value | x 1 x mean | of the obtained difference in the first line of the 4 th column; f) press the [x 2 ] key on your calculator to obtain the squared difference (x 1 x mean ) 2 and put its value in the first line of the 5 th column; g) in the similar way repeat the computations for the next four values x i ; h) now compute the sum of first n numbers in the 4 th and 5 th columns respectively, and put it in the last line of each column ; i) to obtain the mean absolute deviation (M.A.D.)

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
