Topics covered this quarter include bonding theory, stereochemistry, the structure and properties of alkanes, theoretical models of reaction mechanisms and the preparation and reactivity of alkyl halides, alcohols and ethers. The laboratory introduces methods for the preparation, purification and identification of organic compounds. A grade of C or better in General Chemistry lecture and lab (Chem1A-1C) is a prerequisite.
