Level 1: Global Business Community – Macro environmental Factors A. Society / Subcultures The Publix company understands that with so many different consumer cultures and subcultures that they must ensure they are catering by providing successful product placement, customer service and brand selection to compliment consumers needs. Publix Super Market is a Florida-based chain, which has well over 140,000 employees in 2011. In 2010, the company has grocery stores in five states: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee a specific geographic market within four states. Per Publix managers, over 25,000 of the employees have been working with them for ten years or longer being one of the top pleasurable places for individuals to work. B. Demographics / Socio cultural Publix believes that within the culture of the company they must ultimately achieve superior customer value in addition to providing availability to quality products. They understand that customer service cannot be considered a casual way of doing things, as this is one key element of a company that is extremely important. The average customer lives within a one-mile radius from the store location and spends on average $5,000 on groceries each year. Publix believes that employee appreciation is embedded in the culture of an organization. The demographic of customers who shop at Publix Grocery stores are well educated, understand what type of experience and customer service they are looking for and want to still 2
