Frame-in-a-frame Ongoing physical activity Neo-Realism Subjective Relationship Films of 1940s Grapes of Wrath (John Ford, 1940) o Starring Henry Fonda as Tom. Very real/natural style of performance. Tom is very calm, ex-convict o Scene 1: Fonda is trespassing but is reluctant to hide from the cops even though he is on parole. Portrays Fonda as a strong, defiant, calm individual o Scene 2: Jane, Tom's mother, has to decide what to bring and what to leave behind. Great usage of props (photograph, earrings, dog souvenir). Example of internal imaging : plays off the props with her eyes, giving the props "history", sense of sentiment, makes the props sensory. This is different from external imaging in that it is nonverbal. o Scene 3: Fonda says goodbye to his mom. Both actors use "eye acting". Example of " delivering a message ". Speaks metaphorically about an individual fighting which parallels the group fighting. Double Indemnity
