THE WELCOME TABLE 2 The short story entitled The Welcome Table by Alice Walker was a captivating reading describing the blatant mistreatment of an elderly black lady whom falls victim of hatred, racism and violence. In my analysis of this reading, I intend to show that the author was displaying the plight of a woman whom just wanted to worship in a warm environment but was turned away from due to the color of skin. Not only was she turned away, but the violent manner in which she was turned away ended up being her saving grace. I can sum up the way the lady was feeling in the story, tired. She represented so many older black women on Sunday morning. She was dressed in her Sunday best and just wanted to go to church and worship her Lord. Not having a vehicle, or better yet not being able to drive, she walked a half mile down the road on a cold Sunday morning and ended up at her final
