I. Single parent families is on the rise, millions of children are being raised by one parent today in America. A. Since the landscape of the traditional family structure is ever-changing, more accommodations should be made by our government to assist single heads of household with their childcare issues II. One of the most dramatic changes in the family makeup over the last twenty years has been the increase of single parent families. In this family there is only one parent in the family unit raising the offspring. Due to increasing divorce rates, adults choosing not to marry, or even just women and men making the rational choice to raise a child or children alone, through adoption or foster parenting--this is currently the fastest growing family form in North America. More than half of all children will spend some of their lives in a single-parent family. a. 83.1 percent are single mother families b. 16.9 percent are single father families. i.
