According to ‘Characteristics of the Expository Essay’, the definition of an expository essay ‘Uses evidence, examples, or facts to explain a concept or to inform about a topic with a thesis as its base; the information must be presented fairly and in a non-biased manner’. In looking at the definition, the essay about Lucy Stone would be expository because the author does not include her opinion on the particular subject for which she is writing about. The author use facts to convey her opinions and thoughts on the subjects without using the term ‘I’, which is very important when writing expository essays. In the article about Lucy Stone the author gave a brief timeline detailing the important facts and events in Lucy Stone’s life which helped shape her future and her legacy for which she would be remembered by. She presents information in an unbiased view, stating good things about her, such as where she attended college, as well as some of the negative things she had to overcome, such as not being permitted to speak at her
