Chest and Lung Examination Pt starts off seated and disrobed to the waist. Inspection (anterior and posterior. Female is in Tube top) -I am inspecting THORACIC LANDMARKS, A-P DIAMETER, RIBS, INTERCOSTAL SPACES and watching for ACCESSORY MUSCLE USE. -Watching for RESPIRATION, SYMMETRY OF THORACIC CAGE MOVEMENT, DYSPNEA and FLARING OF THE ALAE. -I am Inspecting BREATH ODOR and looking for VASCULAR ABNORMALITIES and CLUBBING OF THE NAILS. -I am also looking for FLUSHING OF THE SKIN, PALLOR, CYANOSIS, CICATRIX AND SKIN LESIONS. Palpation (Posterior. female is in normal gown ) *this section refers to the 10 spots we were taught* - I am palpating for PAIN, TENDERNESS, MASSES AND SENSATION. -(after palpation of these points say) “At this point I would FURTHER ASSESS ANY ABNORMALITIES FOUND. -I am now checking for TACTILE FREMITUS (use the ball of hand while pt says “99”) -I am now checking for RESPIRATORY EXCURSION … take tissue pull T8-T10 and ask pt. to “PLEASE TAKE 3 DEEPS BREATHS THROUGH YOUR MOUTH”
