Unformatted text preview: Shelsie Kloepper BRAE 236 2 November 2011 Lab 5: Soil/Plant Water Determination Lab Write-Up On Wednesday, October 26, 2011, the BRAE 236 class determined the soil moisture depletion in the CIMIS field at Cal Poly. But before heading out in the field to take some measurements the class first listened to Mr. Franklin Gaudi’s presentation on the basics of soil and plant water. Mr. Franklin Gaudi gave the class a quick overview of some common terms heard out in the field. It is important to understand the language used in the field so one can understand what the data collected means in terms of the soil quality as well as the soil and plant water relationship. Learning about how to analyze soil is essential to irrigating correctly for every field. When it comes to irrigation scheduling there are two main questions one must answer: When to Irrigate, and how much to apply?
