MAP 4371 Numerical Solutions of Differential Equations TR 2:00-3:15, Fall, 2011 Dr. Xin Li Contacting the Professor Office Hrs: Classroom: T 9:00-10:00, R 9:00-11:00 MAP 204 Office: MAP 212 E-Mail: xli@math.ucf.edu Course Description This course teaches how to solve differential equations numerically. It will cover the basics for various methods and algorithms with some discussion on the analysis of convergence. It starts with Euler’s methods for ODEs and ends with the level sets methods for PDEs. Applications in image analysis will be also discussed and used for project purposes. Course Requirements: Students should have completed the Calculus sequence, ordinary differential equations, and linear and matrix algebra. Basic skills in programming in Matlab or C are assumed. Course Objectives: Students will be able to implement and apply the basic numerical methods for solving typical differential equations. Required Text
