Treatment o In general – change dysfunctional attitudes (fears of weight gain, self-eval based on weight and shape) and educate, develop coping strategies (if binge provides escape, help find a healthy replacement) o Ambivalence – what are the pros, the cons, of having an eating disorder ED goes from being solution to the problem o For AN Weight gain, family therapy, hospitalization No known meds No good treatment for adults o For BN Normalize eating patterns – ppl with BN, when they aren’t binging they are dieting 3 meals and 2 snacks Eliminate the idea of forbidden foods CBT and IPT – interpersonal psychotherapy SSRI’s Research on perfectionism and pro-anorexia websites o Perfectionism – especially relevant when combined with other factors: feeling overweight (body dissatisfaction), self-efficacy You have high standards, you aren’t meeting them, and you feel like theres nothing you can do to meet them o Pro-anorexia websites
