o Rod recep. respond at low light level s are re found outside fovea o Color perception should be better at higher b/c cones are responding to wave length o Cones are tightly packed, occupy a very small area but there are lots of them, very dense right near fovea o No rods in the fovea – at night we are effectively blind to objects that are the very center of the visual field, no ph recpe responding to what little light is reflected form the very center of our vision: you can see dim stars at night better if you look to the side, if you looked straight on the light would fall in the center when you have no rods, shift gaze, the light will fall to the side where there are rod ph. Recepts to respond Acuity and sensitivity Acuity – the ability of the eye to resolve fine details of an image o Vision test – distinguish dark from light to tell letters apart, diff neurons are responding to light, image in large enough relative to the spacing b/w your photorecptors that you are getting a signal of lightness in some areas and signals
