Moyouri Bhattacharjee JRN 103-G Recitation #2 Censorship in China assignment One of the main upstanding goals of Google, one of the largest search engines in the world, is to “maximize transparency around the flow of information related to our tools and services. We believed that more information means more choice, more freedom, and ultimately more power to the individual.” i One of the basic freedoms every individual should have access to is freedom of expression and knowledge. From what I can tell, China has continuously kept us from fulfilling that cause. All other countries that Google has a base in allows for readers to see how they control web traffic, and how much it is restricted at certain times. However, Chinese officials such traffic information a “state secret” and cannot disclose them. ii The American president is also in line with our core beliefs. Since late 2009, Obama has criticized China’s strict hold on what is published on the internet. iii
