BUSN320 – Week 5 Assignment There are two types of online customers, those who shop online at stores that have brick and mortar stores, and those who shop and trust stores that serve only online. For this exercise, I will be using a hypothetical online show store. To attract online customers to this website, I would employ a combination of various strategies, such as banner ads, search engine ads, and even pop up ads. Banner ads are convenient because they are simple ads and can be placed on some websites for free. Although it can be expensive to do so, banner advertisements can also be run for a very long time and can be placed on high traffic Web sites like Facebook. However, the industry standard “click through rate”, also known as the percentage of people who click on an ad out of the amount of people who got ads on their screens, is very low and is declining. For example, according to a New York based online advertising firm, the average click rate was 0.2 in 2007 and according to a study conducted by Webtrends, it is as low as 0.1 in 2010 . Even high traffic websites are suffering. Facebook click through rates were 0.063% in 2009 and 0.051% in 2010, and
