Discuss Andrew Jackson’s rationale for wanting removal of the Cherokees to Indian Territory in the West, and compare it with ideals of the Governor of Georgia. Who do you think was more truthful? A) Andrew Jackson knew that if he was going to become elected president that he would have to sweep over the frontier states and especially Georgia. He promised the Georgians that if the helped him become president by voting for him then he would help them by allowing them to settle on Cherokee land. He wanted the Cherokees out because their land was so prized amongst the white Georgians because of its resources and gold. He also justified wanting removal by pointing out that the Cherokees had fought on the side of the British during the Revolutionary War and forgetting that the Cherokees did in fact help fight as allies in the war of 1813, a and help win a decisive battle for Jackson against the British-backed Creeks at Horseshoe Bend. B) Jackson’s rationale for wanting removal of the Cherokees to Indian Territory compared with the ideals of the Georgia Governor in several ways. They both tried to persuade the Cherokees to cede their territory and move west. The Georgia governor and legislature passed a law that annexed Cherokee land three weeks after Jackson was elected President, and allowed white Georgia citizens to obtain 160 acre lots through public lotteries.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
