The Nacirema and Their Culture Compared To American’s This is a very interesting group of people. One of the things that make them so interesting is that there is very little information about them and exactly where they originated. The other interesting thing is that Nacirema is American spelled backwards. In the Nacirema culture, they are very conscientious of their bodies; they believe that the body is ugly and that powerful rituals must be performed to ensure that it does not grow weak and stay free of all diseases. In this culture, it is custom for each household to have at least one shrine solely for this purpose. Those families with money have shrine rooms and their wealth is measured according to the number of rooms devoted to this purpose. The Nacirema seek the help of a professional to supply them with the magical potions and charms that are needed to perform the rituals to keep their bodies pure.
