SOCIAL IMPACT THEORY The social impact theory states that; the more an individual stays within a large group of people that is important to him/her the more this group is likely to influence the individual than a smaller group of people less important to the individual that is far away from him/her. This theory also mentions that the more authority a certain person has also increases his/her influence in the group and as a group increases in size, influence to the individual decreases as opposed to when a group is smaller in size. Hence the key factors that influence an individual are strength, immediacy and numbers (Rita, 1987). B. 1.
