Feling test (gluco test) Work 1 Glucose tolerance test: In the past, the glucose tolerance test was a commonly employed diagnostic test for diabetes mellitus. The patient is given 75 g of glucose orally following an overnight fast. Blood glucose concentrations are determined at 30-minute intervals for the next 3 hours. Fasting blood glucose is initially high (greater than 140 mg/dl) in the diabetic and rises to concentrations greater than 200 mg/dl following the oral administration of glucose. The rate of glomerular filtration of glucose exceeds that of tubular reabsorption in the kidney, and glucose appears in the urine. In contrast, normal individuals show fasting ,blood glucose levels of 70 to 90 mg/dl and a rise to only about 140 mg/dl after a glucose load.
