History Part II: The Twentieth Century I. Evolution of Military Technology a. You can never fight the same war twice because of changing technology and also military tactics change too b. The kind of diplomacy also changes c. Late 19 th century idea of fighting a quick war came about d. 1914 when the big diplomatic crisis occurs the assumption was that a war like the Franco-Russian war would occur…Germans screw diplomacy and rush into war d.i. Machine guns, barbed wire, poison gas, improved artillery, and better trenches…thus the war basically comes to a stalemate e. British and France wait to attack Germany even though they declared war because they wanted to be on the defensive f. World War II in the Pacific became the main area for aircraft g. By 1942 and 1943 the Russians learned the German tank tactics and used them to knock the Germans out of Stalingrad h. From the mid-40s and mid-60s is the time it takes for the US and Russia create enough missles to be a threat II. Lessons
