Lecture 31 Ennead (nine gods) of Heliopolis – mostly known for the creation of the universe Nun – incarnation of the sea (a sea of nothing, darkness) Benebn – mound ( bit of land) Atum – Self created god. Appeared on Benben Ra Atum – solar god. Depicted as man wearing a crown or phoenix. Got rid of darkness by flapping his large feathers. Self-inseminated himself and spit forth 2 new goes o Shu – Goddess of air, usually shown lowering Nut onto Geb o Tefnut – goddess of moisture o Geb – Earth God, shown laying on the ground o Newt – sky o Children or Newt and Geb Osiris, Isis, (often depicted with each other) Isis wears a kings throne on her head and Isis is shown as the king Some believe the Nile flood was because of Isis and she is later depicted with the bull horns on her head and often show in a nurturing manor to Horus and Horus of course is the Pharaoh. Seth kills Osiris and chops his body up into parts and scatters them out through the land. Thus Seth is king of the universe for a little while and Osiris is sent to the netherworld
