Lecture 32 I. Temples of new Kingdom a. We start seeing burial tombs and mortuary temples separate…there tombs are at the valley of the kings and mortuary temple are located by the nile. You are not supposed to know where the Pharaoh was buried, you were supposed to go to the mortuary temple to worship the Pharaoh. b. They normally would use rocks from old structures to build new ones and also transport materials from different sites. c. Ramses II: Temple complex contains graneries used to store food when you had the festivals. Thus instead of transporting food, it would already be on site. Preists lived at the temples and owned land around the temples where they would grow food and store it at the temple. c.i. Also had a temple for his mother c.ii. Main building where the king would celebrate was in the center and you had an entrance, court yard, inner court yard, then the hippo style hall where the crowd gathers and then in the back you would have the shrine. Everything was built on a direct access
