Pamela Roberson/BHE433 M4 SLP Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provided employees with a way of coping with the challenging demands of family and home ( act-fmla/new-york/) . FMLA provides adequate coverage protection as incentives for new mothers to stay home after child birth ( fmla.html) Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993 provides employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid job protection leave for one year. Eligible employees are allowed 12 weeks of leave for certain family members and medical reasons for the same 12month period. You are entitled to receive FMLA leave if you have worked for an employer for at least 12 months. As the employee, you must have at least 1,250 work hours over the last 12 months. The employer also must meet certain federal guidelines in order for them to be eligible for the benefit. One requirement is that a company must have at least 50 employees to be eligible. The leave can be from vacation or sick leave balance for some or all of the leave period ( Paid leave can be substituted for unpaid FMLA leave and counted against the 12 week FMLA leave if the employee is properly notified at the time the leave begin(
