Internet and Identity Theft By: Lauren Palomino Internet and Identity Theft The purpose of this paper is to discuss the effects the internet has on identity theft (obtaining stolen information, making purchases, and instant credit). These are some of the roles the internet plays in identity theft. The internet is a convenient way for identity thieves to take the identity of another. The internet provides a source for identity thieves to obtain the information they need to take the identity of another. He thieves can pay a small fee can get anyone’s personal information. As Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said “It has been said that the theft of one’s identity and personal information is not a matter of ‘if’ but a matter of ‘when.” (Spitzer) The internet is just one of many sources for thieves to get personal information in order to commit identity theft. Another role the internet plays in identity theft is the convenience of making purchase online. Today’s consumers demand convenience and that includes being able to make purchase
