CyberCrime Cybercrime cost both the consumer and businesses millions of dollars each year. Today’s cybercriminals seem to be unstoppable. Even with all the new technology there still is nothing to stop cybercrimes. There are so many risks with using the internet it’s not safe of online. The amount in losses to consumers each year is growing. According to the FBI-backed Internet Crime Complaint Center “consumers in the U.S. alone doubled between 2008 & 2009 to $560 million while consumer complaints grew by more than 22 percent due to cybercrime.”( FBI) With these statistics it makes a person almost think twice about going online. There have been many ideas of ways to stop cybercrime. The ways that would definitely have a positive impact in lowering the number of cybercrimes committed each year require consumers and businesses to be a part of the fight against cybercrime. There are a few measures consumers need to take in order to protect themselves online. First consumers need to protect their computers by installing the most recent antivirus software. Businesses also need to install the latest security software in order to keep hackers from retrieving vital information stored on computers. Consumers also need to be aware of the new malware and virus that are online. Uneducated consumers become an easy target of these threats. Hacker use links that contain viruses that gives them access personal information stored on the victims computer. There are non-profit
