Writing Assignment 1 - Due by 5:00 pm on October 11 th The Scientific Method For this essay, you will follow the scientific method in a theoretical exercise, similar to the description of the mushroom and the squirrel in lecture 1. Make one or more observations (imaginary or real) and from those observations, form a hypothesis. Remember, this hypothesis must be testable, at least in principle. Structure your hypothesis so that it will be possible to make useful interpretations from the results (this may include defining the species you are observing). Next, design an experiment to test your hypothesis. This can be as simple or elaborate and expensive as you would like. Be sure to include a control(s) for the experiment, and state how many times you will replicate your experiment. Also include in your paper: 1) How you would interpret your results, 2) How you would know if your hypothesis is supported or falsified by the experiment, and 3) What you would suggest for further study. Grading will be based on the following:
