Leadership Traits Sir Ernest Shackleton Power Legitimate We believe he had this trait. He was held high and viewed as having authority by his subordinates. Reward We believe he had this trait. He used sugar as a reward for his subordinates and to motivate. Coercive We do not believe he had this trait. He never punished anyone. Instead of punishing he found ways around the problem, such as taking the troublemaker with him on the journey back to separate him from the others. Expert We believe he had this trait. He had the knowledge to lead the group, such as when he made the decision to leave at just the right time. Referent We believe he had this trait. He was viewed by his subordinates as "The Boss" and was able to earn the respect of his subordinates. Leadership Traits Intelligence We believe he had this trait. He was smart and used his intelligence to save himself and his crew. Dominance Self-confidence High energy Tolerance for stress We believe he had this trait. He did not show stress when the ship became stuck. He worked through it and kept on going. Integrity and honesty We believe that he had this trait.
