Megan Kave The article “Office technology: Productivity boost or Time sink?” is about whether office technology and technology in general is helping or hurting productivity. Experts have found that opposite to popular belief personal computers, smart phones, netbooks, etc. are addictive “time sinks” and can actually harm productivity by 1/16. It seems like simple interruptions of a visitor stopping by or the mail being dropped off has now turned into constant interruptions of email, text messages, etc. on top of the visitors and snail mail. Another major contributor to the “time sinks” is multitasking. It appears that when people multitask it takes them 10-20 times longer to recover then the interruption took to occur. A calculation by Spira claims that 28% of office workers time is spent in recovery. This constant multitasking or task switching makes the person
