Jenna Horwich English 150 Anne Draemel 9/21/09 Assignment 3 Puppies- how can you not love them. The “puppy” we all know and love are always happy, incredibly cute, and full of spunk. What happens when those traits are lost? Puppy mills over populate, and due to improper up bringing cause the natural happiness in a dog to disappear; therefore these mills need to come to an end. A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is given priority over the well being of the dogs. The puppies are usually sold to pet shops, as young as the age of eight weeks. They are given away at such a young age due to overcrowding in the mill. It is common that cages will be stacked in rows throughout the mill, and to minimize waste cleanup these cages will usually have wire bottoms that are harmful to the dogs. These dogs are raised without proper veterinary care, as well as insufficient food and water. If this isn’t enough to harm a dog, the owners who run these
