1.1 There were many groups who came to the New World from England. Create a timeline of the various groups who traveled here between 1585-1630 and discuss why these groups traveled to the New World and where they settled. Which groups were successful, which were not? What did the English government hope to gain from establishing colonies? Compare that with what colonists may have hoped to gain from coming to the new colonies. After 1585, mostly the English traveled to the new world. The English came seeking refuge from over crowding and poverty in England. One group arrived in the Chesapeake Bay colonies of Virginia and Maryland. There they yielded tobacco; it was a profitable crop but very labor enduring. The second group settled in the cold climate of New England and focused more on the freedom of their religion and starting the churches. While they both interacted with the Indians, they each took a different approach. I would say that the Chesapeake Bay settlers were more polite than the New England Settlers. Although New England had an easier trade to the sea, the land of the Chesapeake area had better soil. I consider
