Rixynes Rodriguez PHL 118 Midterm Exam TTH: 12:30-1:45 Essay: Deontology is any moral theory that claims that moral norms do not exclusively come from how much good our actions produce. Kantian thought that morality has practical reasoning, and reasoning about what to do. He had two kids of practical norms which are hypothetical and categorical. He also has several tests to see if something is truly a moral norm. These tests are universalizability test, and means-end test. He thinks that morality is about respecting each person’s autonomy. Some problems that arise from his view are that it doesn’t always work (suicide, helping others), its not clear it gives the right results, never lie, and tests may raise rationality controversies. Rossian on the other hand had different views on deontology. He believes that there are a number of equally basic moral considerations. These help us determine what is right and wrong. He bases his whole theory on basic considerations which include keeping promises, gratitude, truth telling, refraining from causing harm, and promoting the good are a few of them. Some problems
