Autumn Constance Dr. Libkuman Research Methods Review on Using to Numb the Pain The study done by Genevieve Weber called Using to Numb the Pain: Substance Use and Abuse Among Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Individuals was a big influence on my research proposal. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between heterosexist events, internalized homophobia and substance abuse among lesbian, gay and bisexual individuals. Participants completed the Schedule for Heterosexist events (SHE), Internalized Homophobia Scale (IHP), Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and the Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST). Heterosexism denies, ignores and disparages non-heterosexual forms of emotion and sexual expression. Heterosexist events include unfair treatment by family, friends, peers, loss of employment or lack of promotions and observing people make heterosexist jokes. As a result many GLB individuals hide their sexual orientation and feel shame and negative feelings about themselves.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
