IN MAKING LIFE CHANGES WE OFTEN FOCUS ON WHAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED , NOT IN CELEBRATING WHAT IS GOING WELL GREAT THINKERS SET OR MAKE TRENDS, YOU CAN TOO JOURNEY OF LIFE (WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU?) IS YOUR LIFE A SUCCESS? POLL ON IDEA OF SUCCESS IN LIFE CRITERIA OF WELL-BEING (BOX 1.3) PAGE 9 POSITIVE RELATIONS WITH OTHERS BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU SAY TO YOUR CHILDREN, THE MORE INDIVIDUAL OUR PURSUITS, THE MORE WE ARE SEPARATED FROM SOCIAL SUPPORT, AND SOCIAL SUPPORT HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE A PRIME FACTOR IN THE MAINTENANCE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH (COMPUTERS ) THERE IS CONSIDERABLE EVIDENCE THAT THOSE OF US WITH SOCIAL TIES-SPOUSES, CHILDREN, OTHER RELATIVES, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORHOODS, COMMUNITIES, CHURCH AND OTHER GROUPS-ARE HEALTHIER PHYSICALLY AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY THAN THOSE WHO ARE ISOLATED OR HAVE LITTLE SOCIAL SUPPORT CARING PRESENCE- CARING DISCLOSER- LISTENING IS A SKILL, JUST LIKE TALKING AND CAN BE DEVELOPED

DOES YOUR LIFE HAVE PURPOSE AND MEANING? THE TWO QUESTS OF LIFE FIRST QUEST- SECOND QUEST- ALL OF LIFE IS GROWTH, OR AT LEAST IT CAN BE (TRY TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY) YOU MAY BE RIDICULED BY TRYING NEW THINGS, BUT YOU WILL GET THERE FIRST GROWTH HOLDS PROMISE BUT OFTEN ENTAILS EFFORT, SACRIFICE AND RISK ARE YOU CHOOSING YOUR LIFE? IF WE DO NOT CREATE OUR WORLD, WE CAN AT LEAST CREATE OURSELVES, AND WE DO SO IN THE CHOICES WE MAKE INTERNALS - EXTERNALS - THE GOAL OF SOME TRAINING AND THERAPY PROGRAMS IS TO HELP PEOPLE REVISE THEIR BELIEFS SO THAT THEY CAN GAIN CONTROL OF THEIR LIVES INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIFE IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM FROM THE DALAI LAMA 1. TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT GREAT LOVE AND GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS INVOLVE GREAT RISK 2. WHEN YOU LOSE, DON’T LOSE THE LESSON 3. FOLLOW THE THREE R’s: RESPECT FOR SELF, RESPECT FOR OTHERS, RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL YOUR ACTIONS 4. REMEMBER THAT NOT GETTING WHAT YOU WANT IS SOMETIMES WONDERFUL STROKE OF LUCK 5. LEARN THE RULES SO YOU KNOW HOW TO BREAK THEM PROPERLY 6. DON’T LET A LITTLE DISPUTE INJURE A GREAT FRIENDSHIP 7. WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU’VE MADE A MISTAKE, TAKE IMMEDIATE STEPS TO CORRECT IT 8. SPEND SOME TIME ALONE EVERY DAY 9. OPEN YOUR ARMS TO CHANGE, BUT DON’T LET GO ON YOUR VALUES
