No changes are as important as the changes happening in our personal lives-in sexuality, emotional life, marriage and the family Countries where there isn’t discussion of equality is due to active repression by authoritarian governments or fundamentalist groups China Trying to make divorce more difficult. Currently divorce can be granted due to loss of mutual affection, only takes 2 weeks and only costs $4. In the countryside marriage is more traditional. Studies found 60% of marriages are arranged. Lots of talk about protecting the family The traditional family In medieval Europe marriage wasn’t based on sexual love and wasn’t regarded as a place where love should flourish Inequality was everywhere. In Europe women were property of husbands and fathers along with children. Children were known for their contribution to the common economic task Sexuality was dominated by reproduction and was regulated by the idea of female virtue. In many cultures promiscuity has been a defining feature of masculinity.
