Course Objectives This course is taught with an understanding that students will pursue careers that will assist families and individuals with the daily management of personal resources for the attainment of life goals. With the successful completion of this course students will: 1. Understand the family as an ecosystem within various environments: Members within the Environed Unit; Interacting within the Social-Cultural Behavioral Environment; Utilizing the Human Constructed-Technology Environment; Practicing Stewardship with the Natural Environment. 2. Assimilate and Apply family management concepts in problem solving using several theoretical frameworks found in economics, time management, financial management, systems, human ecology and communication. 3. Identify and Explain the processes and strategies that families can use to strengthen their management of resources. 4. Clarify and Discuss instrumental and terminal values and how they are used by individuals and families in the management and utilization of resources in achieving goals. 5. Examine the behavior characteristics of various family paradigms and Articulate strategies that can improve a familys use of resources to increase their sense of well- being. Special Requirements of the Course: Ability to take exams on Bb on Friday mornings between 10 and 10:50 am. Willingness to develop critical reflection on personal beliefs and values and develop a sensitivity and respect for differences. Willingness to develop problem solving skills that can help families with goal planning and decision making to increase their ability to use resources effectively.
