1 Last Thursday I went to a lecture for first year Odyssey on social justice in Holroyd 190. The man who came in to speak to us was very eloquent and passionate about social work. He spoke to us about social justice and his personal experiences in the social work field. He posed questions to the audience about our own personal experiences as he listed daunting statistics from domestic injustice that take place across the country every day and although no one shared their personal experience, it is probable that it hit several people close to home to hear what he had to say. He read one statistic that stated, “1 in 4 women report experiencing some form of physical, emotional or mental abuse in their lifetime.” Given that there were 32 women in the room last Thursday, about 8 women in the room have personally been affected by abuse. Personally, I believe that number is actually much higher because in my opinion only 1 in 4 women reported the abuse, so that number does not include the women who did not come forward who were abused in their lifetime. Another interesting thing he touched on was child injustice. Child injustice happens every day. With the poverty line set just over $21,000 a year
