Elizabeth Merlino October 5, 2011 Film #1 This film was a great film to watch. It really opened my eyes to parts of racism that I never even learned about. First, there is the blatant separation of people just by looking at them. Then there is the other cultures trying to become “white” and the government dictating who is and who isn’t white. Lastly there is the FHA and all the movement to “white suburbia” and the scams that were pulled on home owners when blacks moved into the neighborhood. The segregation between the whites and blacks was obvious and as other cultures moved in from eastern and southern Europe, the government didn’t know what to classify them as. They were not black, but they were also not white. They were in-betweeners. They made a chart to determine who was white. They had categories of all the traits of people from about 25 different races written down so that people would know who was from what race. Once they had this determined they could tell you who would be a citizen and who
