1 Subtypes Form of Violence c Overt/Direct physical and verbal behaviors directed at another individual c Relational/Indirect purposeful manipulation of and damage to another’s social relationships Subtypes Function of violence c Instrumental Occurs in anticipation of self-serving outcomes and is a deliberate behavior that is controlled by external reinforcements c Reactive Angry defensive response to frustration (goal blocking) Includes responses that are interpersonal and hostile in nature c Impulsive/stimulus seeking Goal is to achieve intense sensory stimulation Injury or death to victim may not be intended
