Manec 387 Group Projects Professor David Benson Each group will be responsible for preparing an analysis of a case or economic situation. In your group, you will choose a strategic problem facing an actual firm and then conduct economic and strategic analysis on that problem. You will submit a 5-7 page report (plus exhibits) outlining your analysis and recommendations. Projects should follow the following basic parameters: 1. Choose a firm, industry, or other commercial or decision setting in which the tools that we cover in class might be useful in helping the decisionmaker reach good decisions. The situation should generally reflect a challenge faced by the manager(s) in a company and the analysis should be to help the manager(s) resolve the challenges with good data, good thinking, and good tools. Examples of previous projects include: a. Is a discount theater charging the right price for movie tickets? (demand analysis) b. Should the BYU Traffic office raise parking fees? (demand analysis) c. Should the Bookstore lower price on the Manec 387 textbook? (demand analysis) d. What is the correct mix of self-checkout and store check-out at Smith’s? (production
