Course SyllabusThe Student in the University - STEMUNIV 100Fall 2018COURSE DESCRIPTIONUNIV100 is a self-exploratory course for incoming first-year students. The courseis designed to assist you in your transition to the University of Maryland (UM)community through an introduction to the academic environment, acclimation ofcampus resources, assistance in skill development, and appreciation of culturaldiversity. This course is an extension of Orientation, intended to familiarize youwith campus living and learning. Additionally, you will learn who you are andwhere you fit within the context of the UM.LEARNING OUTCOMESAfter successfully completing this course you will be able to:To assist you in your transition to the UM communityTo introduce you to the academic environment at UMTo help you establish realistic goals for your collegiate experienceTo help you learn the vast number of resources available to you at UM(i.e. library, cultural activities, co-curricular involvement, academicsupport services, etc.)To assist you in your skill development (i.e. career decision making,academic skill development, communication skills, etc.)To understand that diversity is not limited to categorical descriptionssuch as race, gender, and sexual orientationTo better understand the requirements and issues involved in selecting amajor and/or qualifying for a limited enrollment program.This course will help you begin your exploration of the world of STEMand the many avenues to a successful career.REQUIRED RESOURCESStudents are expected to utilize the course website: elms.umd.edu.
