Bentley Krissy Bentley Midterm Summary 25 October 2011 Midterm Summary Thus far, this class has proven to be a valuable source of information for me. I have really enjoyed getting to understand cross-cultural differences and marketing strategies that are geared towards different groups of people. Overall, it has been a fantastic overview and discussion of unique cultures and, more specifically, what is needed to sell a product on foreign soil. Probably one of my favorite lessons was one where we discussed the differences in values and ethics across nations. I would argue that this was one of the most important discussions of the semester due to the many international issues going on at this time. It was interesting to me to see what businesspersons/consumers expect and respond to in different countries. For example, I was intrigued to learn that Asian individuals are generally less emotional people and view the expression of emotion (such as smiling) as a sign of stupidity or lack of authority. As far as ethics go, I was astounded at how an unethical practice here, such as pirating DVDs, was a supported activity in other countries. Little things like that will make or break a company travelling overseas. It is imperative to understand the audience you are pitching to, and it’s important to
