Email: [email protected] Phone: (801) 472-7768 Texts: Living Ethics: An Introduction by Michael Minch and Christine Weigel 1984 by George Orwell Course Objectives: 1-Acquaint students with major ethical theories, topics, and terms. 2-Inform students of methods for applying ethical decision-making processes to various life experiences and opportunities. 3-Help students develop and articulate their views about what it is to be a moral person. 4-Assist students in recognizing their responsibility as a member of the moral community. 5-Exercise ethical decision-making in relation to current world events. Prerequisite: ENGL 1010 Grades: Each student will receive a letter grade for the course. The grades will be based on the following: • Final Exam: 100 points • Final Paper: 100 points • 10 Current Event Papers (10 points each): 100 points • Discussion Group write-ups (25 points each, drop 1): 100-??? points • Group Presentation: 50 points • Participation: 50 points • Blackboard Reading/Lecture questions (1 point each): points unknown =5xx points possible Grade Breakdown: Grade Percent A 93-100 A- 90-92.9 B+ 86-89.9 B 83-85.9 B- 80-82.9 C+ 76-79.9 C 73-75.9 C- 70-72.9 D+ 66-69.9 D 63-65.9 D- 60-62.9 E <60 Due Dates: Due dates for assignments are firm.
