Decision Framework, DF-16-2830 P. Phelan, B. Zrimsek Research Note 26 April 2002 Is Your Project at Risk? Test Your Vulnerability Enterprises involved in large-scale IT initiatives, such as enterprise resource planning implementations, are starting to formally assess and manage risk. Gartner has developed a test to determine vulnerability in five critical risk areas. Enterprises involved in large packaged-application implementations, such as the deployment of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, are sensitive to the potential for spectacular failure. Not only is the IS budget more precious in the current economic climate, but project failures can reach beyond the enterprise's walls to affect its business partners. Enterprises that previously embarked on enterprise-level projects with a "gut-feeling" about whether the project was at risk are replacing that instinctive approach with formal assessments of risk areas and implementing risk management strategies (see "Managing Risk in Large-Enterprise Projects," TG-13-8745).
