Unformatted text preview: Name: Steven OConnor Week 1 best post 1. List the question or post you responded to: What do you think of Google's strategies for reducing retirements and departures? Can you think of other effective strategies that were not listed in the case? 2. Copy your best post or response here: It's a tough subject because you don't own a person's mind or his/her ideas. I think Google should make exclusive rights with their 20% policy, allow only new innovations for their company. All other ideas or businesses should be done not during company time. I think it's a great thing to allow people to be innovative. That's what makes this country so great. Continual progress on making improvements is what makes us so great. Google can't put an exclusive tag on a person or idea UNLESS, in my opinion, it's done on company time or property. That's why I think they should change their 20% policy. 3. List the question or post you responded to: If you were Paul Nasr, how would you plan to conduct the performance appraisal conversation? 2. Copy your best post or response here: If I were Paul, I would definitely focus on the many positives Rob has. He has a lot of raw talent. Many attributes he has can't be taught. I would understand Rob's background not being the same as most of the employees at Morgan Stanley. Coming into the company, Rob took on a lot early on. I would remind him of how worthy he is to hold such a position in the company. I would also tell him how his name has been brought up a few times about a promotion. I would remind him to continue to look at the company's mission statement and improve on those things that might be a weakness. I think it's important to ask him how he feels about everything. Is he happy with his job? Is he looking for improvement or a promotion? Lastly, I would let him know that I'm his friend. He could come to me if he needs any help. We've known each other for a while and have been on the same team for years. I would thank him for his work and dedication to the company and me. 3.
