USA (22%) China Energy use per capita: USA is almost double everyone else What countries are increasing consumption the most? China India (doubled since 1992) USA China is number 1 in coal consumption; insatiable demand for goods in their economy coal produces more CO2 per unit of energy than oil Projected oil demand in 2030: (forgot to listen, but its probably a lot) Regionally, where is the remaining oil? (proven oil reserves) Middle east (60%) Europe and Eurasia (11%) Which countries have the largest proven reserves? Saudi Arabia (22%) Iraq (11%) Iran (9.7%) Kuwait (8.4%) USA is 1.8% We use oil faster than we discover more oil (been happening since 1980); recoverable oil will run out using a finite resource like it is infinite Amount remaining proven reserves, 2010 (worldwide) oil, 1,300 billion barrels we use 26 billion per year 50 years left BUT we use increasing 1% annually so we’re fucked. natural gas: 60 years left coal: 175 years left What is the largest and most polluted delta on Earth? the San Francisco Bay (JK!) It’s in Nigeria! Niger Delta
