Kerynne Tejada English 134-24 13 October 2010 Essay #1 Revised Final Draft More Than Meets the Eye If my world were an iPod and you listened through the earphones, you would hear parents ranting about how children today are too self-absorbed and conceited. Their kids, members of Generation “Me”, are stereotyped as egocentric. Rapid changes in our technology and communication, such as Twitter and Facebook, have given on-lookers opportunities to believe and see the vanity of youth today. More importantly, these technologies have caused young adults to lose sight of what really matters, like helping others and being there for one another. For seventeen years, I had lived comfortably in the shadows of ignorance where I saw only the reflection of myself. I would find myself complaining to my parents that I did not have all the latest fashions or the newest technological inventions. If it was new, I wanted it. But it was not until I took a required class for high school graduation that I was challenged to confront my narrow mirror of introspection. I accepted this challenge and, in the process, discovered my
