Chapter 1: Interactions and Energy Types of Energy Kinetic : form of energy with motion of an object - faster object moving, more it possess Mechanical : energy transfer that causes speed of object to be affected in some way Chemical potential energy : change when we use our muscles to perform tasks Elastic potential energy : stretchy or springy objects can store energy in them when they are stretched (or compressed) fro their normal state Thermal : related to and/or caused by heat Heat : transferred during heat-conduction interaction - Always transferred from warmer to cooler - When objects in interaction change temperature such that one of them becomes warmer while other becomes cooler, this is evidence for transfer of Heat Energy Electrical : electrical energy Types of Interactions Contact Friction-type contact : whenever two objects (or surfaces) rub together and BOTH warm up Heat-conduction : interaction between two objects with DIFFERENT temperatures are touching each other (touch) heat energy transferred Infrared : only between objects of different temperatures (no touch)
